In Faith UNITY ... In Opinion LIBERTY ... In All Things LOVE

The story of Murphy St. Christian Church continues... Joe and Becky Williams, owners of the house in Crested Butte built with the reclaimed wood from Murphy St., visited us March 8th. Enjoy the photos below.
Becky and Joe ring the Murphy St. steeple bell.
Becky and Joe pose in front of the steeple. The cornerstone of the church is preserved in the middle of the steeple.
Dianne Thomas, former member of Murphy St. Christian Church, stores the bell rope.
Members of United Christian Church, the Williams, and Tim Riley (far left) Tim Riley is the architect that found the wood from Murphy St. and used it to build the house in Crested Butte, Co. He was also instrumental in connecting United Christian with the Williams family.

Exciting News:  We have been contacted by a South Texas Builder Representative who has information on the final outcome of some of the reclaimed wood from the Murphy Street Christian Church.  We are so excited that we now know what happened to the wood from Murphy St.  What a blessing it is to know that the wood was put to good use in the building of this beautiful house in Crested Butte, Co. and that the story of Murphy St., First Christian, and United Christian will continue to be told!
Enjoy the pictures below of how the wood was used!

This house found in Crested Butte, Co. is partially built from the wood reclaimed from the Murphy St. Christian Church.

We celebrated Easter 2006 with a sunrise service at the Murphy Street Steeple Memorial.

"What a blessing to hear that bell again."

Murphy Street Steeple Project

When the Murphy Street Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) decided to merge into United Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), it was determined that the Murphy Street Building had deteriorated beyond repairs. We decided to try to save the steeple as a memorial on the site.

With the assistance of the Taylor Conservation and Heritage Society (Messrs. John Jones and James Kerr), we are well on our way with the steeple restoration. It is located at the southeast corner of 5th Street and Murphy Street (6 blocks east on 5th Street from Main Street).
